Privacy Policy
ScentHunt ("we", "us") is a fragrance discovery app. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and what control you have over it. The short version: you can use ScentHunt without creating a traditional account, we collect only what the features need, we do not sell your data, and we do not show ads.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is the operator of ScentHunt. For any privacy matter, contact us at hello@scenthunt.app.
2. Data we collect
Account
When you first use the app we create an anonymous account - a random identifier with no name, email or phone number attached. If you later choose to back up your account, you can link it to your Apple or Google identity; we then store the email address provided by that sign-in so your data can follow you across devices. Linking is optional.
Content you create
- Fragrance ratings, review notes and tags you add;
- your collection lists (scents you own or want);
- challenge progress and unlocked achievements.
Preferences
- Onboarding answers: which scent directions you want to see (feminine / masculine / both), how many bottles you own, and what occasions you shop for;
- your market (country) - detected once from your device's system region setting, or chosen by you in the app. We use it only to show prices from the right country; we never access GPS or precise location.
Usage data
The app records basic product events tied to your account identifier - for example when a session starts or which recommendation cards were shown - so features like "new since your last visit" work and so we can improve recommendations. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. What we use data for
| Purpose | Data used | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Running the app: your ratings, lists, challenges and taste profile | Account identifier, content you create, preferences | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Showing prices for your market and tracking price history of scents you saved | Country preference, your saved-scents list | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Account backup across devices | Email from Apple/Google sign-in | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Improving recommendations and fixing problems | Usage events | Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
4. Who we share data with
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers. Data is processed by service providers acting on our behalf:
- Supabase - our database, authentication and file storage provider. All account data listed above is stored there;
- Apple / Google - only if you choose to back up your account with their sign-in; the sign-in happens on their systems under their own privacy policies.
Price information shown in the app comes from publicly available retailer listings. When you tap a shop link, you leave the app and the retailer's own privacy policy applies; we do not send them any of your personal data.
Some shop links are affiliate links. Opening one may pass a non-personal referral identifier to the retailer or an affiliate network so a resulting purchase can be attributed to ScentHunt - it does not include your name, email, account identifier or anything else about you. The retailer or network may use its own cookies on their site under their own policies. See also the affiliate-links section of our Terms of Use.
5. International transfers
Our service providers may process data on servers outside your country. Where data leaves the European Economic Area, the transfer is protected by the providers' standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
6. How long we keep data
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, all personal data - your lists, preferences, review texts, tags, usage events, any linked email and the account itself - is permanently removed from our production systems immediately, and from encrypted backups within their normal rotation (up to 30 days).
One thing is kept, in anonymous form: the numeric scores you gave perfumes remain in our database as anonymized entries (a score attached to a perfume, with the link to your account permanently removed and any review text or tags deleted). These entries can no longer be connected to you or to any person, so they are no longer personal data - they simply keep community statistics accurate.
7. Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account at any time, directly in the app: Profile → Delete my account. This works without contacting us. You can also request deletion by email; see Delete your account for both paths.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR (and similar laws elsewhere) you have the right to access, correct, export and delete your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (in Poland: the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, UODO). To exercise any of these rights, email hello@scenthunt.app. If your account is anonymous (not backed up), deletion and export are available directly in the app - we have no way to identify which anonymous account is yours from an email alone.
9. Children
ScentHunt is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has been using the app, contact us and we will delete the account.
10. Security
Data is transmitted over TLS and stored with access controls that limit every account to its own rows (row-level security). No system is perfectly secure, but we design the app to hold as little personal data as possible in the first place.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the effective date above and, for significant changes, inform you in the app before they take effect.
